“He who sings prays twice”
Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are the gentle for they shall possess the land.
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice.
Blessed are they that suffer gladly for justice sake.
Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.
Blessed are you when they revile and harm you
And speak all evil against you untruly for my sake.
Blessed are the merciful for mercy they will find.
Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called God’s children.
(Matthew 5: 3-12)
In 1966 while a student at Sydney University, Peter Kearney composed music for Jesus' words from the Sermon on the Mount — the passage known as ‘The Beatitudes’, in which Jesus describes the essential values of God’s Kingdom — God’s reign of love.
'The Beatitudes' and his ‘Fill My House’, written at the same time, have become known and sung in many different countries.
Peter’s concert The Beatitudes in Songs and Story is a prayerful presentation that features these two hymns with others that illustrate in various ways the values of ’The Beatitudes’. His songs tell stories of good people who have lived by these values, bringing mercy, compassion and justice into our world.
Peter has made music his full time work and ministry since 1985., travelling through through Australia and overseas to share his songs and stories. ‘The Beatitudes’, ‘Fill My House’, and ‘Where is your Song, my Lord’ are among his best known compositions. Fifteen albums of his songs and hymns have been published. Several of his compositions are included in the ‘As One Voice’ hymnal.
Invitations and Enquiries are welcome. Peter provides attractive publicity material.
