02: In and around 'The Rocks'.

During our time staying in the Stafford Terraces, we stayed mostly local in The Rocks / Circular Quay - so easily walkable. There were just two excursions outside that area. One day we walked up George Street to the Strand Arcade (lovely old style).

Next day we caught a ferry to Milsons Point then walked the boardwalk round to Lavender Bay, by Luna Park of course. We had never been up close before  - it's huge. Closed for six months for the installation of new rides.

Back at Circular Quay we visited the Museum of Contemporary Arts

... where there is currently an exhibition by the Australian born Chinese artist Lindy Lee. We were impressed by some of her spectacular works:

Our visit to The Rocks coincided with the Chinese Lunar New Year festival in Sydney.

For the Lunar New Year Festival, there are a couple of big installations at Circular Quay that look especially good at night:

On our way to the Cinema on Opera Quay we had dinner at your recommended place. That's me waving at you:

I went upstairs to look at the great view you mentioned:

But we didn't eat upstairs, because after all our walking Madge's dodgy knee was troubling her. After eating we strolled around  to the cinema. I hadn't previously realised there was a cinema on Opera Quay.

We saw the documentary film 'Fire starter' about the Bangarra Dance Theatre and the three Page brothers who were central to its achievements. An excellent film but we were the only two people in the cinema.

On the way 'home', we passed the lovely old steps leading up from the Quay to the Botanic Gardens:

I'll finish with three images from a long, solo walk I did around The Rocks, Dawes Point, Campbells Cove etc.

I like the contrasting shapes in this image.

MANY THANKS FOR MAKING ALL OF THIS POSSIBLE!
